Upholstering Light Version (1)

Updated: May 27, 2022

We are starting with a basic cover that will transform a boring and dated cushion into an inviting and modern one.

Materials/Tools:

* Thick fabric/Upholstery fabric

* Sewing needles

* Home sewing machine

* Thread

* PVC welt cording

* Zipper

Take the old cover off the cushion. Carefully use a seam ripper and take it apart by the seams. Use the old pieces from the cushion cover as your pattern for the new one.

If you cannot recover the piping, or is no longer in good condition, buy a new welt cording. The same goes for the zipper.

Make sure to lay the old fabric absolutely flat onto the new fabric, and have plenty of seam allowance. Once you have all your pattern pieces ready begin sewing, The piping can be done with a piping sewing foot, or a zipper foot (either one will allow you to get really close to the seams).

The most difficult part of this project is the zipper installation, and the piping, the rest is easy.

Here's a comparison between the old and the new:

Next post, a cushioned stool chair transformation... also easy does it.
